Security agencies were placed on high alert in Ferozepur district after the court complex received a bomb threat on Wednesday, just two days prior to the Independence Day celebrations.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that in response to the threat, police promptly evacuated the court premises and initiated an extensive anti-sabotage operation. Teams from the Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad conducted thorough searches of the court complex and its surrounding areas. To rule out any potential threat, people were cleared from the premises while police personnel carried out checks at various locations.
Court proceedings were suspended until 1 p.m. as a precautionary measure. Further decisions were to be made after a review of the security situation and the conclusion of the search operation. The Station House Officer of Cantonment, Sukhbir Singh, stated that the court premises had been thoroughly checked by the police, but no suspicious or objectionable materials were discovered up to that point. He assured that security personnel had been deployed at the court complex and all necessary precautions were being taken to prevent any untoward incidents, emphasizing that anti-social elements would not be allowed to disrupt security arrangements.
This incident has raised concerns among security agencies, marking what is reportedly the third bomb threat received by the Ferozepur district court this year. The repeated threats have prompted authorities to maintain heightened vigilance around the court complex. Officials have not yet disclosed the source of the threat or specific details regarding the ongoing investigation. More clarity is anticipated following the completion of the security checks.
The threat carries added significance as Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to hoist the national flag during the Independence Day function on August 15 at a location situated behind the court complex. With the threat emerging just two days before the planned celebrations, security agencies have intensified surveillance and are conducting detailed checks in and around the area. Authorities are also reassessing the security arrangements for the Independence Day program to ensure there are no lapses. According to available information, Gaurav Yadav, the Director General of Police, was also scheduled to visit on Wednesday to assess the security arrangements in anticipation of Independence Day.
The police have assured the public that the situation is under control and have urged citizens not to panic or pay attention to rumours. The heightened security measures are in place to ensure the safety and security of the public during the national celebrations.
