Addressing reporters after the rehearsals, IGP Birdi emphasized the proactive measures being taken. “As you all know, today a full dress rehearsal for the August 15 functions is being held across Kashmir,” Birdi said. “Full dress rehearsals have been conducted in different districts of the Valley, along with rehearsals of the security arrangements, so that we can conduct the main programme on August 15 smoothly.”

When questioned about a recent security report linking Al-Qaeda to a past incident, IGP Birdi declined to comment, deeming the occasion inappropriate for such discussions. He stated that any relevant information would be shared separately, adding that any such reports were not currently within their knowledge.

Regarding security protocols following recent incidents, the Inspector General of Police confirmed that investigations are actively underway in the affected areas. He also highlighted that district-level security arrangements are being systematically strengthened to ensure comprehensive coverage and response capabilities.

“Investigations are underway,” Birdi stated. “Apart from that, all the robust security arrangements are being organised by the respective districts. There is quite a robust security setup.”

The IGP appealed to the public to actively participate in the Independence Day programs scheduled across Kashmir. He described August 15 as a significant national event and urged citizens to attend in large numbers at district, administrative unit, and union territory capital events, thereby contributing to their success.

Responding to queries about potential threats circulating on social media, Birdi reiterated that the current focus remains exclusively on ensuring the security arrangements for Independence Day. “I think, for now, we should limit ourselves to August 15 and its security,” he concluded.
