Ahead of the nation’s 77th Independence Day celebrations, a joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police has led to the recovery of a Pakistani drone, an imported pistol, and ammunition from border fields in Fazilka sector. The discovery underscores ongoing efforts to secure the sensitive border region against illicit activities.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the recovery was made on Thursday following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of a drone and associated arms in the area. Security forces promptly launched a coordinated search operation in the vicinity of the Nirmal Border Outpost, located near the border village of Mumbe Ki.
During the extensive search, personnel from the BSF and Punjab Police successfully located and retrieved a drone manufactured in Pakistan. Along with the drone, an imported pistol, two loaded magazines, and nine cartridges were found. These items were discovered concealed within a packet in the paddy fields, approximately 500 metres inside Indian territory from the international border.
The recovered drone and weapons indicate a potential attempt to smuggle contraband or facilitate other unlawful activities across the border, particularly in the sensitive period leading up to Independence Day. The Border Security Force, tasked with guarding India’s frontiers, maintains a constant vigil to thwart such attempts.
In response to the discovery, the Punjab Police have registered a case against unidentified individuals. The First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under relevant sections of the Aircraft Act, specifically Sections 10, 11, and 12, which pertain to the illegal use and operation of aircraft. Additionally, charges under the Arms Act, including Sections 25, 54, and 59, have been invoked, addressing the illegal possession and recovery of firearms and ammunition.
The Fazilka sector has historically been a point of concern for cross-border activities, with security forces frequently intercepting drones and contraband. The recovered pistol, described as imported, suggests a sophisticated network possibly involved in such operations. Security agencies are expected to intensify their surveillance and patrolling in the border areas across Punjab in the coming days to ensure peace and security during the Independence Day festivities.
The recovered drone is a significant find, as these unmanned aerial vehicles are often used by anti-national elements for reconnaissance, smuggling of drugs, weapons, and explosives. The coordinated efforts between the BSF and the state police highlight the importance of inter-agency cooperation in maintaining national security. Both forces are committed to safeguarding the border and preventing any attempts to disrupt peace and order in the region.
The investigation is ongoing to identify the individuals responsible for attempting to smuggle these items into Indian territory. Authorities are examining the recovered equipment for any forensic evidence that could lead to the perpetrators. The focus remains on dismantling any such cross-border smuggling networks operating in the area.
