Jammu and Kashmir: Sajad Lone Denies Kupwara Independence Day Parade Boycott Reports

SRINAGAR: Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone has strongly refuted reports claiming a boycott of the Independence Day parade in Kupwara, dismissing the allegations as baseless and “pure gibberish.” Lone clarified that he was not present in Kupwara on August 15 and therefore could not have participated in or boycotted any event there.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that stated Mr. Lone made these remarks on Tuesday, addressing the circulating rumours. He emphasised that no such incident occurred and that the news linking him to an alleged boycott was entirely fabricated.

“There is news circulating about boycott of Independence Day parade at Kupwara. I can make it clear from my side that nothing of that sort happened,” Lone stated in response to the reports. He further elaborated on his absence from the district on the day of the national celebration.

“I was not in Kupwara on that particular day. That is it,” he added, aiming to definitively quash any speculation. The Peoples Conference leader reiterated his stance, describing the reports as “pure gibberish” and signalling his intent to disregard further unsubstantiated claims.

The statements come amidst heightened political discourse in the Jammu and Kashmir region, particularly concerning national observances. Independence Day celebrations across the Union Territory, like elsewhere in India, are typically marked by official parades and public events, with prominent political figures often in attendance.

The Peoples Conference, a political party active in Jammu and Kashmir, has historically played a role in the region’s political landscape. Sajad Lone, as its chairman, is a significant voice in local politics. This denial serves to manage his party’s image and his personal standing amidst any perceived controversies or misrepresentations.

Such reports, whether factual or fabricated, can often amplify during periods of heightened national sentiment or political sensitivity. The swift and clear dismissal by Mr. Lone aims to prevent any misinterpretation or political mileage being gained from unsubstantiated rumours. The focus of the statement remains on correcting the record regarding his alleged involvement in boycotting the Kupwara Independence Day parade, a claim he has categorically denied.
