Srinagar, Aug 18: Preparations are underway for the first-ever International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK), scheduled to take place from September 7 to 10 in Srinagar.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a high-level meeting to review the arrangements for the maiden event. The festival aims to showcase Jammu and Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage and promote its burgeoning film industry on a global platform.
The festival itinerary includes a diverse range of activities such as film screenings, masterclasses led by industry professionals, and cultural performances. This initiative is expected to attract filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts from across the world, fostering cultural exchange and tourism in the region.
During the review meeting, Chief Minister Abdullah emphasized the importance of prominently featuring Jammu and Kashmir’s unique cultural facets, including its historical heritage, distinct cuisine, traditional handicrafts, and renowned tourist destinations. The aim is to present a comprehensive picture of the Union Territory’s appeal to an international audience.
He further directed the concerned officials to ensure meticulous planning and seamless coordination among various government departments. This collaborative effort is crucial for establishing the IFFJK as a significant annual event on the international film calendar. The inaugural edition of the film festival has already garnered substantial interest, with over 1,100 entries received from filmmakers worldwide.
