Faridkot police have successfully rescued three minor girls, believed to be between 14 and 15 years old, who had gone missing from the district on August 12. The girls were traced to Mumbai, and authorities have apprehended two individuals in connection with the case, who are suspected of luring the minors with the intent of trafficking them for sexual exploitation.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that an FIR was registered at Police Station City-2, Faridkot, under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The registration followed the girls’ disappearance from their school premises. To expedite the investigation, special teams were immediately formed, comprising officers from Police Station City-2 and Police Station City-1, functioning under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Narinder Singh and SSP Gurbaksh Singh Bains.
According to officials, investigators meticulously reviewed footage from over 50 CCTV cameras to reconstruct the girls’ movements from their school to the local bus and railway stations. This extensive surveillance review confirmed that the girls had boarded a train. Authorities utilized this information to track their journey, first to Delhi and subsequently to Mumbai.
The investigative team also accessed the girls’ social media accounts, specifically Instagram and Facebook, to help pinpoint their location. A forward team, supported by a backup unit, was dispatched to Mumbai. Despite operating in unfamiliar and challenging environments, the teams managed to recover the girls safely.
Two individuals have been taken into custody in relation to the case. Aasees, a male accused, has been brought to Faridkot on production remand for questioning. The second accused, Ashwani Kaur, a woman, is awaiting transit from Mumbai and has yet to be produced before the local court. Police have stated that both accused were residing in Mumbai at the time of the incident. Ashwani Kaur, originally from the Tarn Taran area of Punjab, reportedly moved to Mumbai following a domestic dispute. Aasees is reported to be from Uttar Pradesh.
Authorities revealed that the accommodation where the girls stayed in Mumbai had been arranged by the two apprehended individuals. The full scope of events, including the potential involvement of a larger trafficking network, is expected to become clearer once both accused have been thoroughly interrogated.
A high-level inquiry is currently underway to ascertain if the case has wider interstate ramifications. Further legal actions will be initiated based on the facts that emerge from the ongoing investigation.
