SRINAGAR: A fire incident was reported at the Corporate Headquarters of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Housing Corporation in Srinagar’s Peerbagh area on Monday, causing damage to three rooms. No loss of life or injuries were reported.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the fire broke out on the fourth floor of the building, which houses the corporation’s main offices. Emergency services were alerted promptly, and fire tenders were dispatched to the location.
Firefighters from the Fire and Emergency Services department reached the scene quickly and worked to contain and extinguish the flames. Their efforts successfully prevented the fire from spreading to other sections of the building, thereby averting a potentially larger disaster.
While the fire was brought under control, three rooms located on the fourth floor sustained damage. The extent of the damage is currently being assessed by the relevant authorities. Officials have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The J&K Police Housing Corporation is responsible for managing and constructing residential and non-residential buildings for police personnel across the union territory. Its headquarters in Srinagar serves as a central hub for its administrative and operational activities.
The incident raises questions about the fire safety measures in place at official government buildings. Authorities are expected to review and reinforce existing protocols to prevent future occurrences.
