A man hailing from Rajasthan succumbed to severe burn injuries on Friday after he allegedly set himself on fire at the Jwalamukhi temple in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening when the deceased, identified as Ramdas, a resident of Jhalawar in Rajasthan, was at the temple premises to offer prayers. According to police reports, he doused himself with a flammable substance, believed to be petrol, and ignited himself, causing extensive burns.

Despite the immediate response, Ramdas sustained critical injuries. He was subsequently rushed for medical attention to the Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital in Tanda, where he passed away on Friday morning during the course of treatment.
The local police have confirmed the unfortunate event and stated that an investigation into the matter is underway. Dehra Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhawal acknowledged the incident and assured that all aspects are being thoroughly examined to ascertain the circumstances leading to the man’s extreme action.
The Jwalamukhi temple, located in the Kangra district, is a significant Hindu pilgrimage site, drawing devotees from across the country. The serene atmosphere of the temple was reportedly shattered by the shocking incident, raising questions about the individual’s state of mind and the reasons behind his drastic measure. Police are reportedly gathering information from witnesses and examining any potential evidence left behind at the scene to piece together the events that preceded the self-immolation.
While the immediate cause for the man’s actions remains unclear, authorities are expected to explore all possible angles, including personal distress or any other underlying issues that might have contributed to the tragedy. The investigation aims to provide clarity on the sequence of events and the motivations, if any, behind this deeply disturbing incident that has cast a shadow over the otherwise revered religious site.
