A man has been accused of allegedly strangling his wife to death in Khirkianwala village, Muktsar district, Punjab, on Sunday night. The alleged motive was the husband’s suspicion that his wife was involved in an illicit relationship.
The Chenab Times has learned that the accused, identified as Neela Singh, a construction worker, reportedly fled the scene after the incident. The victim has been identified as Gurshwinder Kaur.
According to a complaint lodged by the village sarpanch, Tarsem Singh, Neela Singh had been frequently quarrelling with his wife over his suspicions of infidelity. The sarpanch stated that Neela Singh had threatened to kill Gurshwinder Kaur approximately four to five days prior to the alleged murder. Following these threats, Gurshwinder Kaur had reportedly left their shared residence and gone to her parental home in Chak Gandha Singh Wala village.
On Sunday, the sarpanch’s statement detailed that Neela Singh brought Gurshwinder Kaur back from her parental home while his father, Nachhattar Singh, was away from their house. It is alleged that Neela Singh left his mother and their two children at his sister’s house in Charewan village before retrieving his wife. The complaint further states that he then strangled her inside their home. The alleged crime came to light after villagers became aware of the incident, at which point the accused reportedly fled.
The couple had been married for approximately 16 years and had two children, a 14-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter. The forensic team was summoned to the crime scene as part of the ongoing investigation. Police have initiated a search operation to locate and apprehend the accused. A case has been registered against Neela Singh at the Kotbhai police station under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
