Punjab: Eye Camp in Jalandhar’s Bilga Benefits Over 400 Patients

A comprehensive eye care initiative successfully examined 470 patients at a mega eye camp held in Bilga, Jalandhar, Punjab. The event, a collaborative effort by Canadian EyeSight Global, Rotary Club Jalandhar West, and ReSight Vision Foundation, Jalandhar, also provided free spectacles to 242 individuals and identified 88 patients requiring cataract surgery.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the identified patients subsequently underwent successful cataract surgeries on October 31 and November 1 at Arora Eye Hospital & Retina Centre in Jalandhar. The camp aimed to address prevalent eye ailments and improve vision for residents in the region.

Canadian EyeSight Global, an organization founded by Anoop Singh Jubbal, has dedicated over three decades to the cause of preventing blindness across India. The foundation regularly organizes such camps in underserved communities, extending critical eye care services to those in need. This particular camp in Bilga exemplifies their ongoing commitment to enhancing public health through accessible medical interventions.

The initiative was made possible through the sponsorship of Makkhan Singh. The event saw the presence of several notable figures from the community and political circles. Among those who graced the occasion were Dr. Navjot Dhaiya, former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), Dr. Amandeep Singh Arora, Tarsem Singh, President of the Rotary Club Jalandhar West, Chatran Singh, and Dr. SPS Grover, alongside other prominent community members. Their support and participation underscored the importance of community-driven healthcare initiatives.

The examination process involved thorough eye check-ups, ensuring that each patient received personalized attention. The provision of free spectacles addressed immediate vision correction needs, while the identification and subsequent surgical treatment for cataracts offered a long-term solution for those with more severe conditions. The success of the camp highlights the significant impact that targeted healthcare outreach programs can have on improving the quality of life for individuals.

The collaboration between international and local organizations, alongside community leaders, demonstrated a unified approach towards addressing healthcare challenges. Such partnerships are crucial in extending the reach of medical services and ensuring that essential treatments are available to all segments of society, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. The ongoing efforts of Canadian EyeSight Global and its partners continue to make a substantial difference in the fight against preventable blindness.
