“Deeply disturbed by the news of a friend, Danish Seddiqi, being killed in Kandahar last night. The Pulitzer Prize-winning Indian journalist was embedded with Afghan security forces. I met him two weeks ago, just before he flew to Kabul. “My heartfelt condolences to his family and Reuters,” Mamundzay wrote on Twitter.

In other Hindi tweets, Mamundzay claimed that Siddiqui, Reuters India’s chief photographer, was with “Afghan security forces when they were attacked by terrorists” in Kandahar province on Friday.

According to sources quoted by Afghanistan’s Tolo News channel, Siddiqui was killed in Kandahar’s Spin Boldak district. Sediq Karzai, an Afghan special forces commander in Kandahar, was also killed in the incident, according to the report.
