Srinagar police have announced the bust of another prostitution racket in the Nowgam area of the city, with three people, including a woman, being taken into custody. The operation was carried out as part of an investigation into the Chanpura case, with police revealing that two customers and a sex worker were also detained during the bust.
According to reports, the police arrested Shabir Mir of Charlipora Nowgam, his wife Shazia Mir, and Adil Gulzar Hazar of Soura, for their involvement in the sex racket. The police stated that they were operating the racket in the Nowgam area, and had been caught in the act.
The police tweeted, “Investigation in Chanpura case led to the busting of another prostitution racket in Nowgam area. 1) Shabir Mir of Charlipora Nowgam, 2) his wife Shazia Mir & 3) Adil Gulzar Hazar of Soura arrested on the spot for operating this racket. 2 customers & a sex worker also detained (all locals).”
The police have said that they will continue to investigate the case and are urging anyone with information on this or any other prostitution racket to come forward. Prostitution is illegal in India, and those found guilty of engaging in or facilitating the trade can face lengthy prison sentences.
