After apprehensions of untoward incident during seventh phase of DDC polls in Mendhar A and Mendhar B constituencies, District Magistrate Poonch on Tuesday ordered imposition of restrictions under CrPC 144 in the area on Wednesday.
“In view of past experiences and inputs available, there is every apprehension of arising of disturbance of law and order which may hinder smooth conduct of elections. Therefore it is necessary that preventive measures be put in place for smooth voting,” an order, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), issued by DM Poonch Rahul Yadav reads.
It has further been added that strict restrictions under CrPC 144 shall remain in place with no one shall be allowed to assemble in 100 meters of polling stations with voters shall be allowed to enter the polling station only after proper scrutiny of their identity.
Officials on the other hand said that there are apprehensions of incidents of untoward nature during voting on Wednesday as the areas of Mendhar including Harni, Sakhi Maidan where voting will take place on Wednesday have been marked as sensitive areas keeping in view the past elections held in these areas.
Meanwhile, a probe panel of district administration Poonch have reported missing of nine ballot papers (votes) from a polling station of Balakote DDC constituency where voting was held under sixth phase on Sunday.
“Scuffle between polling agents took place at Keri polling station of Balakote DDC constituency on Sunday after which a probe panel has reported missing of nine ballot papers (votes) from the polling station with panel’s report has been submitted to higher authorities by district administration,” officials said.
Two persons have already been booked by police while a case has been registered against them in Gursai police station for damaging polling material, officials said.
