The private mobile service provider Jio has begun its services in the Warwan block of Sub Division Marwah in Kishtwar District, much to the surprise of the residents of the area, which has a population of roughly 18000.
According to the information available, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar informed the public about the news via its official Twitter account.
“Good news coming in for Warwan area. Jio Tower at Afti Warwan has been made on Air and is radiating. If all goes well Basmina,Warwan tower to go on-air tomorrow.” DC Kishtwar Ashok Kumar Sharma has posted on twitter.
Even after 75 years of independence, the Warwan area in Kishtwar District remains closed off from the rest of the world for 5/6 months during the winter and lacks electricity and appropriate road access.
With the launch of mobile services in the area, residents will be able to stay in touch with the rest of the country, as well as assist the administration and government in reaching out to the inhabitants of this remote region.
Following the successful operation of two mobile towers, others are being installed in the area, including in the most distant village of Sukhnie on the Ladakh border, as well as work on a half-dozen towers that will provide mobile access to another distant Marwah section of the District.
