On Tuesday, police claimed to have apprehended an ex-militant who had been on the run for 13 years in the Kishtwar district.
SSP Kishtwar Shafqat Hussain confirmed the incident and told Chenab Times that police had apprehended an absconder (ex-militant) who had been evading arrest for the past 13 years.
He said the arrested suspect, Naeem Ahmed, son of Bashir Ahmed, of Tattani Kishtwar, was wanted in connection with FIR No. 02/2007 US 302/307/326/RPC 7/27 IA Act filed at Police Station Atholi.
He said a special police team of Police Station Atholi was formed after receiving information from reliable sources and acting quickly on it.
Inspector Sohan Singh and SDPO Atholi Sh. Pardeep Sen led a team to the suspected locations and arrested the absconder in the Shalimar area of Kishtwar.
Shafqat Hussain-JKPS, on the other hand, praised the police for their alertness and quick action.
