From July 25 to 27, President Ram Nath Kovind will travel to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh for three days.
Official sources told Chenab Times that the President, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, is likely to attend the Kargil Vijay Diwas programme on July 26 at the Drass War Memorial in Kargil.
The President was supposed to lay a wreath at the War Memorial in 2019, but his visit was cancelled because his flight from Srinagar was unable to take off due to bad weather.
The President is also expected to speak at a couple of events in the Valley, including an educational institution’s convocation.
A detailed schedule for the President’s visit has yet to be released, but security is being beefed up in anticipation of the VVIP visit.
In the aftermath of Kovind’s visit to JK, Additional Director General of Police’s Security Wing S D Singh Jamwal issued an order prohibiting all subordinate staff from taking leave.
“In view of the President of India’s expected visit to the UT of J&K, all types of leave have been suspended until further orders,” reads an order issued by ADGP Security J&K SD Singh Jamwal.
