A pregnant woman with acute vomiting was admitted to the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) in Nowgam village of Sonawari here on Monday in the hopes of being cured. What happened next, however, was nothing short of a nightmare for the woman and her mother-in-law, who was caring for her at the hospital.
According to Kashmir-based news agency GNS, a pregnant woman from Nowgam (name withheld) went to the NTPHC at 1300 hours and was put on drip. The staff left and locked the health care facility around 1500 hours, with the woman still on a drip.
When they realised they had been locked, the woman and her mother-in-law raised an alarm and dialled their family’s number. After that, family members and some locals gathered outside the facility to stage a protest, demanding that the erring staff be punished.
BMO Hajin Dr. Aijaz Ahmad told that he was gathering information and that those found guilty would face consequences.
According to a senior medical officer in the district, a report on the incident has been requested from those involved, and stern action will be taken against anyone found guilty of dereliction of duty.
“In the first place, it should not have happened. Nonetheless, if there are reports of such an incident, legal action will be taken,” the officer added.
