On Thursday, a gunfight erupted between militants and security forces in Warpora village, Sopore, Baramulla district, north Kashmir.
According to Kashmir-based news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a joint team of police, army’s 22 RR, SOG, and CRPF’s 179, 177, and 92 launched a Cordon and Search Operation based on specific information about militants’ presence in the area.
He claimed that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected location, the hiding militants opened fire, prompting a retaliation, resulting in an encounter.
A senior police officer also confirmed that forces and militants exchanged fire.
Two militants linked to the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) are believed to be trapped in the area, he said.
