Mr Sarma, who visited the RSS’s Cachar district headquarters in Silchar last week, said he did not discuss politics with the organisation since it is “well aware” of the situation in Assam and the Northeast.
“Should I give RSS a lecture about what’s going on in Assam? They are aware of the situation in Assam and the rest of the Northeast “Before wrapping up his three-day tour to Silchar on Monday, Mr Sarma told reporters.
“With the RSS, we don’t discuss politics,” he remarked.
Mr Sarma, a senior BJP leader, did not go into detail about the current situation in the state or region.
Mr Sarma said he went to the RSS office in Silchar on Saturday, the first day of his tour, as a “swayamsevak” (volunteer), and that he left after some tea and breakfast.
According to reports in the media, the Assam chief minister met with RSS cadres on his visit to the organization’s local headquarters and requested their assistance to “defend the interests of the people of Assam.”
According to reports, Mr Sarma also expressed concern that Assam would become another Kashmir if quick action is not done to protect the state, which the chief minister categorically denies.
He had reportedly said that ”aggression” is threatening to change the state’s picture with a section of the people from outside the state grabbing land and the grassroots level reach of RSS could help the government in this regard, media reports had said.
According to media sources, Mr Sarma also declared at the RSS office that the National Register of Citizens and Citizenship Amendment Act are not against the people of the state.
