Cassie Laundrie said she had a message for her missing brother, who has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt since Gabrielle “Gabby” Petito’s body was discovered in Wyoming last month.
Cassie Laundrie told ABC News in an interview that aired Tuesday on “Good Morning America,” “I would tell my brother to simply come out and get us out of this horrific mess.”
Petito, 22, and Brian Laundrie, 23, were driving across the country in Petito’s white 2012 Ford Transit this summer, chronicling their journey on social media. According to officials, Brian Laundrie drove himself to his parents’ home in North Port, Florida, on September 1st. Petito’s family reported her missing on Sept. 11 in Long Island, New York, according to authorities.
Cassie Laundrie, who lives in Florida with her husband and two sons, told ABC News that her brother and parents came to see him on his homecoming.
“I really wish he’d come to me first with the van that day,” she said. “I don’t think we’d be here.”
Petito’s disappearance led to the designation of Brian Laundrie as a “person of interest.” He has not been seen since Sept. 14, according to officials, and has refused to speak to investigators.
A body was discovered in the Bridger-Teton National Park on Sept. 19, according to the Teton County Coroner’s Office in Wyoming. The coroner confirmed the remains were those of Petito two days later, and that an initial investigation revealed she died as a consequence of homicide. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a federal arrest warrant was eventually issued for Brian Laundrie in Wyoming, based on a federal grand jury indictment connected to his “actions” following Petito’s death.
As the search for Brian Laundrie continues, the case’s twists and turns have drew global attention.
Cassie Laundrie told ABC News that thinking about her brother and where he might be makes her nervous.
“I hope he’s OK,” she said, “and then I’m angry and I don’t know what to think.”
