2 Teachers Killed In Srinagar, DGP Says TRF Behind Killings

Militants killed two minority community teachers in Srinagar today in a horrifying incident.

Militants barged into Government Boys Higher Secondary School Sangam, Eidgah in Srinagar, according to an official, and shot two teachers dead at point blank range. He recognised them as Satinder Kaur, the principal of the school, and Deepak Chand, a teacher.

“The pistol-wielding men came into the school this morning and asked for the identity cards of the teachers and later fired at two teachers, one each from minority Sikh and Hindu community”, said a teacher who didn’t reveal her name.

DGP Dilbagh Singh said today that the killing of unarmed citizens in Srinagar is an attempt to undermine and disrupt Kashmir’s age-old traditional communal peace, adding that police have already uncovered some clues regarding prior killings and will investigate the new occurrence as well. He was quick to emphasise, however, that the killers will be apprehended very soon.

The DGP added that killing innocent citizens indicates “frustration and barbarism” as he spoke to reporters outside the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Sangam, Eidgah, Srinagar.
“This is an attempt to malign Kashmir’s native Muslims.” Killing innocent civilians, especially teachers, is an attempt to undermine Kashmir’s long-standing heritage of communal harmony and brotherhood, he said.

He claimed that killing innocent people is part of a conspiracy to “target local ethos and values,” which the police and the general public will defeat.

He stated that in earlier cases, authorities had gotten some clues and leads regarding the killers, and that the new case will be investigated as well. “I talked to staff members of the school and they are in total shock over losing two colleagues. Police will nab the killers very soon,” he said.

He said that TRF is to responsible for the killings, and that it is the front group for all militant groups including as Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen. “There is a pattern as they want to terrorise the minority community”, he said.

In Srinagar, gunmen shot and killed a well-known Kashmiri Hindu pharmacist two days earlier.

Seven people have been slain in Kashmir in the previous week, three of them are members of the minority Hindu and Sikh populations. According to an official, 25 political activists and civilians were killed in a series of targeted killings this year.
