The police announced today that eight persons have been charged with gang-raping a woman on a train from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, to Mumbai, Maharashtra. According to them, four of the suspects have been apprehended, and the rest are being sought.
Officials reported that on Friday night, eight persons armed with firearms boarded the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express sleeper coach in Maharashtra’s Igatpuri town, around 120 kilometres from the state capital, and began looting the passengers.
They also allegedly raped a female passenger and injured five to six individuals with sharp objects who attempted to confront them, according to authorities.
The passengers began shouting to raise an alarm when the train arrived at the Kasara station in Mumbai. Two of the accused were apprehended by the Government Railway Police who arrived on the scene quickly.
Two more suspects were apprehended later, and the other four accused are still being sought, according to the authorities.
The police also found stolen goods worth Rs 34,000 on those arrested.
A case of rape and robbery was filed by the Government Railway Police. They said that they are looking into it further.
