In a major development, a number of political activists from BJP, PDP, NC, Congress, Apni Party, etc., organised a grand convention at Thathri on Sunday for the movement for Divisional Status for the Chenab Valley.
At a media briefing, BDC Chairperson Gundna Sarshad Natnoo said, “All people from different political parties have joined hands for this movement, which has five major agendas, including Divisional Status, Separate Parliament Constituency, two additional seats in the Assembly, Pahari Status for the Chenab Valley, and full statehood for J&K before the elections.”
The grand convention was organised at Dak Bunglow Thathri where various political leaders and activists shown support including Chairman Municipal Committee Thathri Mansoor Ahmed Bhat, BDC Chairperson Drabshalla Suraj Parihar, BDC Chairperson Gundna Sarshad Natnoo, Senior National Conference Leader Shamim Ahmed, Apni Party District President Doda Asgar Hussain Khanday, Ghulam Haider, PDP Leader Abdul Majid Butt, PDP Zonal President Doda-Kishtwar Talib Hussain, Abdul Kabir, Congress Leader Mohd Iqbal Teli, Waseem Zargar, Farooq Shikari, Sarpanch Sundar (Dachhan) GM Khanday, Gulzar Mattoo, Former Sports Officer Deewan Chand, Ishtiak Ahmed Naik and various others were present in the convention.
It is worth noting that several political leaders have recently formed alliances in support of the demand for a separate divisional status for the erstwhile Doda district, which is also known as the Chenab Valley, from the current Jammu division.
