WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two progressive congressmen are working to stop legacy admissions to prestigious colleges and institutions, a practise that primarily favours white students, as the Supreme Court prepares to hear challenges to affirmative action.
Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) and Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-New York) are presenting legislation on Wednesday that would prohibit colleges participating in federal student aid programmes from accepting students based on family relationships.
