DC Srinagar inaugurates Martial Arts championship under “Play for Drug Free Srinagar”

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad Friday inaugurated a Martial Arts championship under the banner “Play for Drug Free Srinagar” here at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Rawalpora.

The event was organized by District Youth Services & Sports in collaboration with Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Department

Under the overall supervision of District Administration Srinagar in which Sqay Martial Art and Taekwondo competitions/demonstration were conducted.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner stressed upon the need and importance of holding such programs that keep youth engaged with creative activities and to create awareness about evils of Drug Abuse. He asked the young participants to carry forward the message to completely curb drug addiction from society.

The DC further stressed upon them to work voluntarily in their respective communities and raise their voice against such unlawful activities that ruin the career of youth. He said the District Administration has launched MISSION WAAPSI to save and rehabilitate the youth affected from the social evil of drug menace. He reiterated that all possible efforts shall be made to eradicate such nuisance to make Srinagar a Drug Free City.

The DC said that various initiatives are being taken to further upgrade the sports infrastructure in the District to provide a better sports platform to budding talent so that they can exhibit their hidden talent to compete at national and global level sports competitions.

After inaugurating the event, young girl participants displayed brilliant talent through Sqay Martial Art, Taekwondo and other games.

Programme Officer, ICDS, Zeenat Ara, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Balbir Singh, Principal BHSS Rawalpora, Mrs Tanveera and other senior Officers, Officials, Staff members, school children were present on the occasion.
