Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), thanked the Pakistani people on Monday for their support in the protests against his removal as Prime Minister of Pakistan.
“Thank you to all Pakistanis for their amazing outpouring of support and emotions to protest against US-backed regime change abetted by local Mir Jafars to bring into power a coterie of pliable crooks all out on bail. Shows Pakistanis at home & abroad have emphatically rejected this,” Imran Khan tweeted.
“Never have such crowds come out so spontaneously and in such numbers in our history, rejecting the imported govt led by crooks,” he said in another tweet.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday took out rallies in several cities of the country to protest against party chairman Imran Khan ouster through a successful vote of no-confidence the previous night.
Khan had earlier declared that today was the start of a “freedom struggle” against a “foreign conspiracy of regime change.” “It is always the people who safeguarded their own sovereignty and democracy,” he stated in an attempt to rally his supporters.
“Pakistan became an independent state in 1947; but the freedom struggle begins again today against a foreign conspiracy of regime change. It is always the people of the country who defend their sovereignty & democracy,” he said in another Tweet.
While speaking to the media in Islamabad earlier in the day, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry urged on people to stage protests after Isha prayers. He said that Khan not leading a massive movement would amount to a “betrayal with the country’s politics and Constitution”.
According to the Dawn daily, the party later announced a schedule of the different protests that were scheduled for cities across the country starting at 9:30 p.m.
The capital’s demonstration began at Zero Point, with PTI supporters gathering and waving flags while chanting slogans in support of the former prime minister, according to the publication.
The vote on the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan’s PTI administration began late Saturday night in the country’s National Assembly, with 174 members voting in favour of the resolution that removed Imran Khan.
