A 30-year-old Hindu vigilante named Honnappa attacked a Muslim youth with a sword in Tergaon village in Haliyal, Uttar Kannad District, Karnataka on Thursday, according to the Makhtoob Media.
The youth has been identified as 18-yr-old Amanulla Irfan. On Wednesday evening, the incident occurred.
According to the report, the attacker was heading home after seeing the controversial film Kashmir Files, and the attack was motivated by the survivor’s Muslim identity.
“Haliyal Police launched a FIR under IPC 307 based on Amanulla’s complaint and arrested Hindu vigilante Honnappa.” Amanullah and Honnappa are both Tergaon village residents, according to the report. Amanullah was brought to a government hospital in Dharwad.
The film ‘Kashmir Files,’ starring Anupam Kher, tells the story of atrocities against Kashmiri pandits. Scholars and critics of Hindutva ideology has flagged the film for installing hatred towards Muslims.
Hindu nationalist organisations have endorsed the film. The film was directed by Vivek Agnihotri and released on March 11th.
Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, and Tripura, all BJP-ruled states, have awarded the film a tax-free run.
Meanwhile, Hindutva organisations chanted genocidal slogans and anti-Muslim shouts at Kashmir Files screenings around the country.
