During his visit to Jammu and Kashmir on April 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate a variety of projects and have a groundbreaking ceremony for industrial investments worth approximately Rs 70,000 crore.
Modi’s visit comes amid a surge in attacks on civilians, many of them non-locals, in the Kashmir Valley.
The foundation stone laying ceremonies of two power projects and the inauguration of the Banihal-Qazigund road tunnel will be done virtually from Palli Panchayat during the visit, which will be his first since the erstwhile state was stripped of its special status in August 2019 and bifurcated into two Union Territories, according to official sources.
Palli – a sleepy village of over 450 houses in Jammu’s border district of Samba is growing to become UT’s first carbon-neutral panchayat. Officials from practically every department in the UT have been visiting the village over the past month, as Modi prepares to address members of rural local bodies across the country.
The Prime Minister will deliver a virtual address to about one lakh people in Palli and around 700 Panchayats around the country. The Panchayati Raj Diwas is celebrated on April 24th, the day the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992 went into effect in 1993.
The Prime Minister’s visit comes as the Delimitation Commission prepares to publish its final report, and the much-anticipated Assembly election in the UT is set to take place before the end of the year.
According to sources, Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the Ratle and Kwar hydel power projects in the Kishtwar district, which will be built across the Chenab River. The PM will virtually lay the foundation stone for both famous projects.
From Palli Panchayat, the Prime Minister will formally launch a groundbreaking ceremony for industrial investments in Jammu and Kashmir. Approximately Rs 70,000 crore has already been invested in the industrial sector.
Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, will greet and accompany the Prime Minister throughout his tour, according to officials. According to reports, Modi will present books to farmers that have been created following land surveying using drones and geotagging by the Surveyor General of India and other authorities.
