The Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed to have arrested three people who were selling outdated or expired rations to people in the Gandoh area of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued to The Chenab Times, Doda Police said that acting on specific information that expired or outdated ration was being taken in vehicles for sale to people in the Gandoh area, a police party from Police Station Gandoh led by Inspr. Vikram Singh, SHO P/S Gandoh, assisted by PSI Parvez Ali, laid a Naka on Gandoh road at Bhatoli. During a check, three vehicles (all load carriers) bearing registration numbers JK06A-5306, JK14F-6783, and JKP6A-9379, which were travelling from Malikpura Bhatyas to Bhatoli Haddal, were discovered to be carrying outdated/expired ration.
On questioning, the drivers of these vehicles disclosed their names as Irshad Ahmed S/O Nisar Ahmed R/O Bathri (Kahra), Mohd Arif S/O Ghulam Nabi Wani R/O Tendla (Chilly Pingal) and Mohd Yaqoob S/O Mareed Bakash R/O Bathri (Kahara). All the drivers were arrested, and the vehicles were seized on the spot. During further questioning, it was also disclosed by the drivers that they were going to sell the loaded ration in the Chilly Bhatoli Haddal area after changing the expiry date on the ration bags from year 2021 to 2022 with a permanent marker for their personal benefits.
In this regard, a FIR No. 22/2022 under section 420, 273 IPC has been registered at P/S Gandoh and an investigation into the case has been started.
The statement further reads that the arrest of the accused persons and recovery of expired ration was made under the supervision of Additional SP Bhaderwah Shri Aftab Ahmed Mir and SDPO Gandoh Shahzada Kabir Matto.
It is pertinent to mention here that with the timely action of the police, a big mishap was prevented and a chance of spreading food poisoning was averted.
