“Théras“, a small waterfall in Badanoo village of Thathri tehsil in Doda district. The word “Théras” is derived from the Kashmiri word “Thaher“, which means “to stop“.
The village of Badanoo is located 7 kilometres from the tehsil headquarters at Thathri and 36 kilometres from its district headquarters at Doda.
History
There are no recorded primary historical sources which discuss this Waterfall, but according to locals, this place is often used for bathing, washing clothes, and taking rest. There is a natural spring beside this waterfall whose water is used for drinking by the villagers.
Badanoo village’s history is also mythological, where we found the origin of its name. The name of Badanoo is said to be named after a princess who was known as “Ba’d Rai’n” in the Kashmiri language, meaning “Great Princess”. The Ba’d Rai’n name evolved into “Badanoo,” which was set as the name for this village. There is no historical proof of this derivation, but the old people there believe the same story about it.
