A man impersonating a lawyer was caught while concealing his real identity and impersonating as Advocate of Jammu High Court in the court of Naib Tehsildar Thathri on Tuesday. However, the police and accused clarified the incident on Wednesday.
According to information obtained by The Chenab Times, the man impersonating as Advocate of the High Court Jammu is identified as Mukhtyar Ahmed son of Ab Majeed, a resident of Sunarthawa Tehsil Chiralla in the Doda district.
The news came out after some of the people shared some awareness messages to make locals aware of this man who was impersonating him as a lawyer of the High Court.
The Chenab Times spoke to Naib Tehsildar Thathri Shambu Nath regarding the incident. He said, “I was hearing a case under sections 107 and 110 CrPc and when I asked the person (who was impersonating as a lawyer) about his name, he said that his name is (name withheld), while upon investigation I found that he was concealing his identity.”
After the doubt that the person was not the lawyer and was impersonating him, he was handed over to police at Thathri for verification.
The Chenab Times contacted the police after the incident, but was unable to talk with the concerned officer. We found that the accused was reportedly freed on same day. We contact SHO Thathri for confirmation but he was on leave and he don’t had any information regarding the case. Then we tried to call the incharge at Police Station Thathri, but his phone was continuously busy on Tuesday.
We also called the advocate whose name the accused was impersonating. He, on the basis of anonymity, said that the accused was working as Munshi (clerk) in his chamber and he had sacked him after knowing about the incident.
Police Investigation and Clarification
Mukhtyar contacted The Chenab Times and clarified that he was freed after verification at Police Station Thathri. He further said that his statement was misunderstood and he was there on behalf of the advocate, not as an advocate.
The Chenab Times contacted police again on Wednesday. A police official said that the man was handed over to police on a verbal complaint and that later the allegations against the person were verified and found null and void. The official further said that the advocate whose name was used in the Vakalatnama was contacted and he clarified the affiliation of the Mukhtyar with him as his Munshi (clerk).
History
We have spoken to various lawyers about this accused and found that this is not the first time that he has allegedly impersonated as a lawyer. Mukhtyar worked as a personal assistant to a lawyer in Doda court about four years ago, where he learned how a lawyer works. He later went to Jammu as a lawyer. However, Mukhtyar is pursuing B.A LLB, he said. Later, he went to Thathri to perform the same practice. But Naib Tehsildar Thathri caught him during the hearing of a case and handed him over to the police at Thathri.
After being questioned regarding the allegations against him, Mukhtyar denied all the allegations and said that the allegations against him are only to malign his image.
