In the midst of continuous protests by the Congress party in the national capital over issues of price rise and unemployment, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is conducting a press conference at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi.
Ahead of the protests, Delhi Police officials have briefed the security personnel at Vijay Chowk.
Gandhi said that democracy doesn’t exist in India and that it is being destroyed in front of everyone’s eyes.
He said, “What we are witnessing is the death of democracy. What India has built brick by brick starting almost a century ago, is being destroyed in front of your eyes. They have viciously attacked, arrested, bitten us. People’s issues such as unemployment, inflation should not be addressed… That’s sole agenda of the government.
“The government is run to protect the rights of four to five people, and this dictatorship is run by two people in the best interests of two to three powerful businessmen. Anybody criticising this government is ruthlessly persecuted and imprisoned; the issues of the people are not permitted to be brought up. Democracy is now a memory in India,” he added.
“Question (me) all you want. There is absolutely nothing there, everybody knows it. My job is to resist the idea of the RSS and I am going to do it. The more I do it, the more I will be attacked, the harder I will be attacked. I am happy, attack me.”
The Wayanad MP continued to discuss the state of the economy by saying, “The macroeconomic fundamentals she is referring to, in my opinion, are something different. I don’t believe the finance minister has even a basic understanding of what is happening in the Indian economy. She is there as a mouthpiece.”
