Mother Dairy follows Amul; to hike milk prices by Rs 2 from tomorrow

Mother Dairy announced on Tuesday that it will increase the price of milk by 2 rupees per litre in the Delhi-NCR with effect from Wednesday due to an increase in its procurement and other input expenses, after an increase in milk prices by Amul.

The milk prices were also raised by 2 rupees per litre starting on August 17 by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells milk and milk products under the brand name “Amul.”

Prices have been hiked in Ahmedabad and Saurashtra in Gujarat, Delhi NCR, West Bengal, Mumbai and all other markets. Amul Gold will now cost 31 rupees per 500 ml, Amul Taaza 25 rupees, and Amul Shakti 28 rupees.

Mother Dairy raised the cost of milk by Rs 2 per litre in March in Delhi-NCR.

One of the top milk suppliers in the Delhi-NCR market, Mother Dairy sells more than 30 lakh litres of milk daily through vending machines and poly packs.

On Tuesday, a company official said that starting on August 17, 2022, the company will be “compelled” to increase the price of liquid milk by Rs 2 per litre. All milk varieties will be subject to the increased rates.

From this Wednesday, full cream milk would cost Rs 61 per litre, up from Rs 59 per litre.

Toned milk would cost Rs. 51 per litre, while double toned milk will cost Rs. 45 per litre. The cost of cow milk has increased to Rs. 53 per litre.

The cost of bulk vended milk (token milk) has increased from Rs 46 per litre to Rs 48.

The official said that over the previous five months, the company had seen an increase in input expenses.

For instance, farm costs for raw milk have increased by 10–11%.

Due to the heat wave and prolonged summer, the price of feed and fodder has also significantly increased.

The official says that only a portion of the increase in farm prices is being passed on to consumers, protecting the interests of both consumers and farmers.

About 75% to 80% of the milk sales revenue generated by the company goes into buying milk from farmers.
