Man involved in eight bovine smuggling cases booked under PSA in Doda

A man involved in eight bovine smuggling cases was booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) by Jammu and Kashmir Police in Doda. The arrest was made under operation KAMDHENU, in which Doda Police have launched a special drive against the bovine smugglers. This year, 31 cases of bovine smuggling have been registered so far, in which 81 people have been arrested, 10 vehicles involved in the transportation of bovine animals have been seized, and 418 bovine animals have been rescued.

In a statement issued to The Chenab Times, Doda Police said that a notorious bovine smuggler, namely Talib Hussain, son of Mohd Ibrahim, resident of Manjmi Dessa Tehsil Bhagwah, has been detained under PSA under the order passed by District Magistrate Doda and lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah for his repeated involvement in bovine smuggling cases.

The statement further reads, “It is to be mentioned here that the accused was a repeated offender of bovine smuggling. He was active since 2012 and was involved in eight FIRs of cattle smuggling registered against him in Police Station Doda. The accused was kept under surveillance and, ultimately, on the basis of technical and human intelligence, a team from Police Station Doda succeeded in apprehending him. The accused were not only active in Doda District but also indulged in bovine smuggling in adjoining areas of Doda.
“His detention under PSA will definitely act as a deterrent to the criminals and bovine smugglers of the area to desist from bovine smuggling in future,” it added.

Doda Police has sought public assistance in rooting out bovine smuggling, which is a serious issue with the potential to cause law and order problems in the district. Doda Police have also warned the smugglers that if they continue to smuggle bovine, they will face harsh legal consequences.
