Delay in disbursing pension arrears to senior citizen

Senior citizens in Tarn Taran town, Punjab, are facing delays in receiving their pension arrears, leaving them struggling to make ends meet. The issue has come to light after Surinder Kaur, a resident of Tarn Taran, reported that her efforts to receive the arrears of her family pension from Punjab National Bank’s Tarn Taran branch have been unsuccessful for the past seven years.

Kaur’s husband Raghbir Singh, who retired from the Punjab Roadways, passed away on March 2, 2014. He was receiving 90% provisional pension from the department through the bank. After her husband’s death, Kaur was issued a Pension Payment Order (PPO) by the Accountant General, Punjab, and has been receiving the family pension since then. However, Kaur claims that despite writing to and personally meeting with bank officials, she has not received the arrears owed to her.

Kaur, who is 72 years old and bedridden due to paralysis, is not alone in her struggle. The delay in disbursing pension arrears has been a recurring issue for senior citizens in Tarn Taran, leaving them struggling to pay for their basic needs.

Ajit Singh Fatehchakk, the district president of the Pensioners and Senior Citizens Welfare Association, has criticized the bank officials’ attitude towards the matter. Meanwhile, Sahil Mehra, a senior manager at the bank, has stated that he is not the competent authority to comment on the case.

This delay in disbursing pension arrears has left senior citizens in a dire situation, and immediate action must be taken to address the issue. It is crucial that the bank officials take responsibility and ensure that these individuals receive the pension arrears they are owed without any further delays.
