The authorities of Doda district have requested assistance from the Indian Institute of Technology in Jammu to create a report by a team of specialists to determine if the damaged area in Thathri, where cracks appeared in multiple homes and the ground, can be reconstructed.
Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan was quoted by The Tribune as saying that a team of experts from IIT went to the Nai Basti area of Thathri. He stated that the team will provide advice on whether it is safe to reconstruct the damaged homes at their original locations in order to avoid putting the lives of the residents in peril.
According to him, the majority of the impacted families have been staying with relatives, while others have taken refuge in a school that has been transformed into a relief camp in the region. 21 homes were discovered to have cracks and as a result, the administration relocated the affected families.
The Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction has been advised to allocate funds to families who have been impacted. The report from the Geological Survey of India team, which collected samples from the location, has yet to be submitted to the local government.
According to Mahajan, the event seems to be limited to a small area and has not caused significant impact. The DC also stated that they are closely monitoring the situation to make sure that no one in the community is affected. However, it is challenging to repair the cracks that have formed in the ground due to the mountainous terrain.
