India is on the brink of victory in the second Test against Australia after bowling out the visitors for just 113 in their second innings on day three at the Kotla ground on Sunday. With a target of 115 runs, India are now in a commanding position to level the four-match series at 1-1.
Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja led the Indian charge with the ball, claiming a brilliant seven-wicket haul while giving away just 42 runs in 12.1 overs. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also chipped in with three wickets to further trouble the Australian batsmen.
Australia struggled on a slow and low Kotla track, with Travis Head top-scoring for the visitors with 43 runs off 46 balls. Marnus Labuschagne contributed 35 runs, but failed to get any support from his teammates as wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals.
The Indian team will now look to chase down the target of 115 runs in their second innings and level the series, after being beaten convincingly by Australia in the first Test at Adelaide. The hosts had posted a total of 262 runs in their first innings in response to Australia’s 263, before the bowlers did the job in the second innings to put India in a dominant position.
