Additional Deputy Commissioner Doda Dr Ravi Kumar Bharti, along with Chief Medical Officer Doda Dr Hamid Zargar, Tehsildar Gundana, and police officials, visited Gundana to investigate the death of Smt. Shahista Begum, which has been alleged in some social media handles to be due to medical negligence.
The inquiry committee, headed by the ADC, met with various stakeholders, villagers, and witnesses and recorded their statements. The decision regarding the case is expected to be released soon.
During the investigation, the committee also inspected the drug stores and medical shops of the area. It was discovered that two medical shops were unable to provide proper records of their sale-purchase and other mandated records. As a result, their licenses were suspended until the necessary records are produced before the authorities.
It should be noted that news of Shahista Begum’s death appeared on social media, with some sources alleging medical negligence as the cause while others reported it as a natural death. The contradictory reports prompted the DM Doda to order an inquiry into the matter.
The ADC, Dr Ravi Kumar Bharti, stated that the investigation would be conducted in a transparent and impartial manner, and the guilty would be brought to justice. He also urged the people not to spread false information on social media and to wait for the investigation’s findings.
Medical negligence is a serious issue, and it is the responsibility of the authorities to ensure that medical practitioners adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics. The investigation by the ADC and his team is a step in the right direction towards ensuring justice for the victim and her family.
