Car falls into Sutlej, 2 feared drowned

Two people are feared to have drowned after their car fell into the Sutlej river in the Ghumarwin subdivision of Bilaspur district. The incident took place on the intervening night of February 22 and 23, near Malyawar village. The victims have been identified as Asheesh Rana (30) and Rajesh Kumar (25), both residents of Malyawar village.

A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was deployed to recover the car from the river this morning. However, the bodies of the passengers were not found inside the car, and a missing report was subsequently filed for the two individuals.

According to Ghumarwin SDM Rajeev Thakur, only the car was retrieved during the rescue operation, raising concerns that the two occupants of the vehicle were inside the car when the accident occurred.

Bilaspur DSP Raj Kumar has confirmed that the search and rescue operation is ongoing, and that a case has been registered and an investigation has been launched into the accident. He added that nothing could be confirmed until the bodies are found.
