CCTV Cameras to be Installed in Metadors and School Buses in Doda District: DRSC Decision

In a bid to enhance road safety and ensure a pleasant commuting experience, Deputy Commissioner Doda, Vishesh Mahajan, chaired the 3rd District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting of the year 2023 at the DC office complex. The meeting focused on evaluating the current infrastructure and logistics necessary for safe travel within the district.

Addressing concerns and complaints raised during the DRSC meeting, Chairman Vishesh Mahajan ordered the installation of CCTV cameras in all school buses and Metadors registered with ARTO Doda that operate in the district. This move aims to monitor and improve safety measures in public transportation.

The meeting also called for the installation of glow signages, speed limit boards, and boards displaying Emergency Response Team contact numbers along all roads. Additionally, the DRSC instructed the placement of memorials at accident sites to create a psychological impact on commuters. Furthermore, agencies were directed to promptly clear road encroachments, ensuring unobstructed travel for motorists.

Regarding the decision to install CCTV cameras at specific locations identified by NHIDCL (National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited) and other agencies, a representative from NHIDCL informed the committee that the matter has been taken up with higher authorities for funding and necessary approvals.

In line with previous instructions to establish a joint checkpoint at the 9th kilometer near Assar, it was reported that the checkpoint has been regularly implemented. The Chairman emphasized the need for consistent checking at Assar Naka to prevent the entry of unfit and unregistered vehicles into the district undetected. Furthermore, agencies were instructed to promptly install crash barriers at accident-prone spots and create designated parking bays at regular intervals.

The DRSC meeting also addressed the implementation of previous decisions, the availability and disbursement of Road Safety funds, iRAD training, awareness campaigns, and other relevant issues. Attending the meeting were SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom, SE PWD RP Singh, ARTO Doda Rajesh Gupta, CMO Doda, DIO Doda, Ex Ens of PWD and PMGSY, DTI Traffic, and representatives from other DRSC members.
