In a tragic incident that unfolded on Tuesday evening, a teenage boy has been arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly stabbing to death a man in Batamaloo. The victim, identified as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, was rebuking the accused for his alleged romantic relationship with Bhat’s daughter when the confrontation escalated into a fatal altercation.
The swift response from police led to the apprehension of the suspect within hours of the incident. Superintendent of Police South Srinagar, Gaurav Sikarwar, addressed the media in a press conference to provide details on the case. He revealed that the accused had confessed to the crime, citing revenge as the motive for the brutal act, as the victim opposed his relationship with his daughter.
Upon receiving the report, the Jammu and Kashmir Police promptly registered a case (FIR number 67/2023) and launched a thorough investigation. CCTV footage from the crime scene was analyzed, leading to the identification of the suspect. Several individuals were rounded up for questioning, ultimately resulting in the arrest of the accused.
“The case was cracked within hours as the accused was apprehended at 2:00 AM in the night, and crucial evidence, including a blood-stained shirt, trousers, and the knife used in the crime, were recovered,” Superintendent Sikarwar stated. He also added that the investigation team had worked diligently to solve this blind murder case swiftly.
In a separate statement, the police disclosed that the arrested individual is a juvenile whose name has been withheld. Given the gravity of the offense and the age of the accused, who is above 16 years old, authorities plan to file a petition in court, seeking to treat him as an adult in accordance with Section 15 of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015.
