In a significant crackdown on timber smuggling, a police party consisting of officers from Police Station Dessa and adjoining police pickets has seized illicit timber from the forest area of Linga Dhar Dessa, as per police statement reached The Chenab Times. The timber was discovered to have been extracted by cutting down green trees in the region.
In response to this illegal activity, a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant provisions of the law, numbered FIR No. 06/2023, has been registered. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the case.
It is worth mentioning that the police have recently launched a special drive at the police station level to combat timber smugglers and protect the region’s valuable green gold. As part of this operation, numerous FIRs have already been registered, and a substantial quantity of illicit timber has been seized in the forest areas of Chiralla Thathri, Marmat, Bhaderwah, and Dessa.
The illegal extraction of timber poses a significant threat to the environment and biodiversity of the area. The police’s ongoing efforts to curb this illicit activity demonstrate their commitment to safeguarding the natural resources and preserving the ecological balance of the region.
