In the early hours of the morning, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake shook the Chenab Valley, causing panic and distress among the residents, as per correspondents of The Chenab Times. The earthquake, with its epicenter located at Latitude 33.15 and Longitude 75.68 in Doda’s Premnagar Thathri area, was reported by the National Centre for Seismology.
The tremors, which began at precisely 5:38 am local time, were felt throughout the Chenab Valley, affecting areas such as Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Thathri, Ramban, Banihal, and even reaching the neighboring Kashmir valley, where minor shocks were reported.
The impact of the earthquake was most prominently felt in Thathri, where locals reported feeling intense shaking and witnessed cracks appearing on walls and structures. The sudden jolt left the residents startled and prompted them to seek safety.
Following the initial earthquake, an aftershock was observed at 5:44 am, further adding to the anxiety of the affected population. While its intensity was relatively lower, it served as a reminder of the potential dangers that earthquakes can pose.
