In a recent turn of events, Shaheena Akhtar, a resident of Rajouri who had been accused of being married to more than 28 Kashmiri men, has vehemently denied all allegations and insisted on her innocence. Speaking to various media channels seperately, Shaheena shed light on her side of the story, revealing her version of the events that unfolded.
According to Shaheena, her marital journey began in Rajouri, where she was initially married and had two children. Unfortunately, her husband allegedly left her and subsequently remarried after divorcing her, as she claimed. It was during this vulnerable period that she encountered a man named Mohammed Altaf Mir, a resident of Doodpathri in Budgam. Mir, she recalled, had promised to take her to her sister’s village in Kashmir, where she could find solace.
Recounting the events that followed, Shaheena stated that while waiting for transportation in Rajouri town, Altaf approached her in his car, claiming he was headed to her sister’s village as well. However, she asserted that he forcefully took her to his own house, where he insisted on marrying her and made promises of constructing a house for her in Rajouri. Shaheena passionately asserted her innocence, stating, “If anyone shows me that I have married even thrice, the court is free to hang me.”
Addressing the recent protests staged in Srinagar’s press colony, Shaheena dismissed the claims made against her, asserting that she did not recognize any of the individuals involved. She further divulged that she had been married twice due to constant torture inflicted by her former husbands, suggesting that these allegations may be part of Altaf’s conspiracy.
“It is imperative that people ascertain the facts before defaming someone,” urged Shaheena, highlighting that Altaf’s divorce proceedings had been ongoing in court for several months. She emphasized that her own divorce had only been finalized a year ago. To support her innocence, Shaheena questioned those who claimed to have sent her money, challenging them to provide evidence. “If anyone can prove that even a single rupee was given to me, I am willing to surrender to the court and accept any punishment,” she declared.
Denying accusations that she had fled from Kashmir, Shaheena disclosed that her second husband, Altaf, had subjected her to domestic violence and forced her to relocate to Rajouri. She stressed that her time in Kashmir had lasted only a month, during which Altaf had not sought information about her well-being. Only after six months had passed, she said, did he send her a divorce document. Now, over a year later, he has seemingly initiated yet another drama.
The scandalous accusations have dealt a severe blow to Shaheena’s societal reputation, leaving her confined to her home. Struggling to venture outside, she called upon the authorities to intervene and ensure that the real culprits face appropriate consequences for their actions.
