A somber cremation ceremony took a tragic turn on Thursday afternoon when two young boys lost their lives to the Chenab River’s relentless currents. The incident occurred at the Durga Nagar Cremation site in Khellani, Doda, sending shockwaves through the locality.
The victims have been identified as Rohit Rana, son of Ramesh Singh, a resident of Durga Nagar, Khellani, and Sunil Kumar, son of Ram Raj, also hailing from Durga Nagar, Khellani, Doda. The boys were attending a cremation ceremony at the riverside when the unfortunate incident unfolded.
According to preliminary reports reaching The Chenab Times, the two boys met their tragic fate while participating in the cremation proceedings. As they stood on the banks of the Chenab River, a powerful current suddenly swept them away, leaving onlookers helpless and horrified. Immediate efforts were made to rescue them, with a rescue team and local police promptly arriving at the spot to initiate search and recovery operations.
