The Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly denounced the recent midnight crackdown on its leadership and the detention of numerous party members across the region. The party’s president, Mehbooba Mufti, has been placed under house arrest, while others have been illegally detained in police stations. These actions are viewed as a blatant attempt to suppress dissenting voices and manipulate the narrative of peace, as promoted by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Former legislator and senior PDP leader, Firdous Tak, condemned the government’s actions in a statement, asserting that the authorities’ moves were designed to stifle genuine expressions of concern and to propagate a misleading image of tranquility. Tak highlighted the stark contrast between the government’s grand displays of supposed progress and the ground reality faced by the common citizens of the erstwhile state.
Tak criticized the BJP’s extensive use of billboards, TV commercials, and social media campaigns celebrating the revocation of Article 370. He argued that such actions disrespect the aspirations and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, further intensifying the already delicate situation in the region. Despite the BJP’s claims of normalcy, Tak underscored that the prevailing reality is far from peaceful, with heavy-handed tactics employed to suppress any form of genuine dissent.
As the ongoing hearing on Article 370 continues, Firdous Tak has called upon the Honorable Supreme Court to promptly address the situation. Tak emphasized the importance of judicial intervention in safeguarding justice, democracy, and the fundamental rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The PDP remains resolute in its commitment to upholding these principles and ensuring that the people of the region retain their right to determine their own future.
