Doda Police Crack Down on Timber Smuggling, Arrest Two Culprits in Bhowan Forest Seizure

In a resolute move against illegal timber activities, the Doda Police have detected a large-scale damage to the region’s green trees and seized a substantial quantity of illicit timber in the Bhowan forest area of Gandoh. The operation, executed by a dedicated team under the leadership of Inspector Vikram Singh, SHO of Police Station Gandoh, led to the apprehension of two individuals involved in the illicit timber trade.

Acting on specific intelligence, the Police Party from Police Station Gandoh undertook a decisive operation resulting in the confiscation of approximately 205 wooden logs from the Bhowan forest area. The illicit timber had been harvested by Jamsheed Ahmed, son of Abdul Qayoom Khan, and Shahbaz Ahmed Khan, son of Nazam Din Khan, both residents of the village Sanwara in Tehsil Gandoh. The timber was unlawfully extracted by felling green trees in the forest area designated as compartment No. 46/BH Gandoh. The accused individuals had allegedly stolen the wooden logs with the intention of selling them illicitly.

Subsequent to their arrest, a First Information Report (FIR No.72/2023) has been registered at Police Station Gandoh under the relevant sections of the law. The investigation into the matter has been initiated, signifying the authorities’ determination to ensure that those involved in the unlawful exploitation of forest resources are brought to justice.

This operation forms a part of Doda Police’s concerted efforts to curb timber smuggling in the region. The law enforcement agency has been rigorously pursuing timber smugglers, leading to the apprehension of several individuals and the seizure of considerable amounts of illicit timber across multiple locations within the district.
