Magnitude 2.9 Earthquake Shakes Doda District, Epicenter in Bhalessa Region

A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale jolted Doda district in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir at 03:48 pm on Friday, as per The Chenab Times sources. The National Centre for Seismology reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Bhalessa region of Doda district.

The earthquake, characterized as a single shock, occurred at a shallow depth of just 4 kilometers below the earth’s surface. While the quake’s magnitude was relatively low, residents in the affected area reported feeling the tremors. The incident raised concerns in the region, which is known for its seismic activity.

The tremors were not confined to Doda district alone; reports indicated that shocks were also witnessed across the Chenab Valley. This occurrence underscores the seismic vulnerability of the region, as the Chenab Valley lies within a known seismic zone.

Seismologists and authorities in the region continue to monitor the situation, and residents are urged to remain vigilant. While no major damage or casualties have been reported at this time, it serves as a reminder for residents to be prepared and follow safety guidelines during seismic events.
