In a heart-wrenching incident in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, a four-year-old girl lost her life after being attacked by a leopard near her home. The unfortunate incident unfolded in Upper Banjala village of Panchari tehsil, and local authorities are now engaged in efforts to capture the wild animal responsible for the tragedy.
The victim, identified as Tanu, was taken away from her house, and her lifeless body was discovered by locals approximately two kilometers from her residence. Rakesh Sharma, Range Officer of the Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Department in Udhampur, confirmed the incident and provided details on the ongoing efforts to address the situation.
Upon receiving information about the leopard’s attack, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with senior officers of the Wildlife Department, promptly mobilized to the scene. Currently, a search operation is underway to locate and capture the leopard responsible for this tragic incident.
Mr. Sharma expressed his condolences and shared insights into the response efforts, stating, “After getting information about the leopard taking away a small girl, our teams launched a search operation but unfortunately we found her dead.” He further emphasized the commitment to capturing the leopard, stating, “We launched a massive search operation to catch the wild leopard and soon we will capture it.”
Recognizing the profound impact on the victim’s family, the Range Officer affirmed their dedication to providing support. “We have prepared the file of compensation for the victim’s family,” he said, “Proper compensation should be given to them as soon as possible.”
