Two LeT Over Ground Workers Arrested in Baramulla: Police

In a significant development, the Jammu & Kashmir Police announced the arrest of two individuals believed to be Over Ground Workers (OGWs) associated with the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) on Sunday.

According to a statement released by the police spokesperson to the Kashmir News Observer (KNO) news agency, this operation unfolded on September 3, 2023, following a specific intelligence tip-off. A joint security checkpoint was established at Shirkwara near Bus Stop Shirkwara, comprising members of the Special Operations Group (SOG) Kreeri and the 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR).

The statement detailed the events, stating, “During naka checking, a suspicious movement of two persons coming from Wagoora Bridge side by foot was observed. While seeing the police party and security forces, the said persons tried to flee from the spot but alert naka party apprehended them tactfully.”

The arrested individuals have been identified as Tawseef Ramazan Bhat, son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat, and Moien Amin Bhat, also known as Momin, son of Mohammad Amin Bhat. Both hail from Bada Mulla, Sheeri in Baramulla.

Significantly, during the operation, a Chinese Pistol with a magazine and 15 rounds were recovered from Moien Amin Bhat, while Tawseef Ramazan Bhat was found in possession of a hand grenade. The police have asserted that both individuals are OGWs actively associated with LeT.

Further investigation has revealed that the arrested individuals were in constant communication with LeT handlers across the border in Pakistan, sharing critical information. According to police sources, the OGWs were allegedly planning to become active terrorists, with intentions to carry out attacks on security forces and target killings.

In response to these developments, a case has been registered under FIR number 111/2023, invoking sections 7/25 of the Indian Arms Act, along with sections 13, 18, 20, 23, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. An active investigation is now underway to delve deeper into this alarming development.
